Going Green with Window Treatments

Going Green in the window treatment industry is not just about using products from the environment and replacing what we use; it is much more than that. Window treatment industries are doing more and more to respect our environment and create a “green” culture within their facilities. Manufacturers are not only creating beautiful window treatments for the inside of your home, they are helping keep the environment cleans on the outside, too.

How are window treatment manufacturers making our environment cleaner? Recycle, recycle, recycle. Recycling is becoming a new way of life for manufacturers in the window treatment industry. Aluminum, paper, plastic, toner, and cardboard are being recycled throughout production plants and offices. Many manufacturers have switched to Energy Star-rated office equipment and lighting. A reduction in airborne emissions has also been a priority. All these things amount to making our environment a better place for everyone.

The manufacturers have not just gone "green" inside their facilities; their products are inherently “green”. From their honeycomb shades, which have a strong insulation barrier to outdoor temperatures to their solar shades made from low emission fabrics. The honeycomb shade is one environmentally friendly window treatment. The honeycomb shade keeps the sun’s heat out in the summer and keeps the bitter cold out during the winter, helping to keep energy costs down in your home. Another eco-friendly shade is made from renewable materials like bamboo, reeds, and grasses is also becoming more popular in sunrooms, bedrooms, or whichever room you want to express a natural glow. Wood blinds and plantation shutters are made of domestic basswood. Because it is a domestic material, transportation emissions are decreased from the result of not having to import foreign wood. These are just a few window treatments manufacturers produce to create a healthier environment and a more energy-efficient home for you.

To keep up with our manufacturers’ "green" efforts, Premier Shutters and Blinds is also doing what we can to keep our environment clean and healthy. We have a recycling center near our office, which we recycle our cardboard, box board, paper, plastic, and aluminum. The best part of going “green” is that it has had no additional costs or effort from our business; however, the benefits of it will be priceless to our children and all those generations to come.
